Weapon Mastery's
Weapon Mastery's are skills that you gain that are exclusive to one weapon type. You can gain new weapon mastery's by finding someone in the world who can train you, and you can level them up by using skill points.
You can have as many Weapon Mastery's unlocked as you want, but keep in mind, that in order to use the skills from a Weapon Mastery, you need to have a weapon of that type equipped.

Character Creation:
When first creating a character, picking a Weapon Mastery also gives you a basic Weapon of the type of Mastery you chose and a passive Skill that is always active when you have that weapon equipped.
The Sword Mastery is a very versatile Mastery. It's a good choice for starting players and can be combined with others to great effect.

Character Creation: 5 Advancement Points.

Starting Weapons: Saber, Short Sword.

The Shield Mastery is a very Supportive Mastery. It's best combined with another Mastery.

Character Creation: 3 Advancement Points.

Starting Weapons: Wood Shield.
Shield
The Dagger Mastery focuses on stealth when used alone, but can be deadly when used as an off-hand weapon in combination with another Mastery.

Character Creation: 5 Advancement Points.

Starting Weapons: Basic Dagger.
Dagger
The Fist Mastery is a very unique Weapon Mastery, as it doesn't use any weapons. It can be used alone as a brawler or can be combined with another Mastery to greatly enhance your Combat options.

Ranged
The Ranged Mastery applies to all dedicated ranged weapons, and will greatly enhance your long-range Combat options.
